An English language course that turns London into a classroom for students on study holidays is among the 12 nominations for the fourth British Council innovation awards, announced yesterday.
The English language cultural experience course, designed by the Camden College of English, encourages students to study English in a different museum or gallery on each day of their short course.
Other nominations include a CD-rom board game that allows students to improve their vocabulary, a multimedia resource for primary pupils and a preparation course for trainee teachers.
The 2006 "Elton" awards - the most prestigious in the Tefl industry - celebrate new and imaginative ways of teaching English and training English-language teachers.
The British Council's director of English, John Whitehead, said: "The 12 nominees for the 2006 Eltons are among the most imaginative and exciting we have seen since the awards were launched four years ago. They are proof, if any were needed, of the health of the UK's English language teaching industry."
The winners will be announced on March 2.
