Apologies for cross postings CALL FOR PAPERS Teachers College, Columbia University Working Papers in TESOL & Applied Linguistics is an on-line journal ( http://www.tc.columbia.edu/tesolalwebjournal) dedicated to publishing research in progress in the fields of TESOL and Applied Linguistics. Within a conceptual framework that values an integration of theory and practice, the journal publishes full-length articles dealing, in a principled way, with language, language acquisition, language teaching, and language assessment. The journal also publishes interviews, short commentaries, and book reviews. The Editorial Board is currently accepting manuscripts for review for the Fall 2009 issue. Submissions from both within and outside the TC community are welcome. The deadline for submission is September 6th, 2009. Articles submitted to the journal should normally be no longer than 8,000 words. Each paper must begin with an abstract not exceeding 200 words. No information that identifies the author should be included in the paper. A separate title page should be provided, with the following information: title, the author's name, affiliation, address, e-mail address and both a daytime and an evening telephone number. Contributors may submit their papers in either of two ways. The brief introduction of the keynote speakers is as follows: Dr. John Adamson (Japan) Title: “ELT and interdisciplinary attitudes: Insights from Asian contexts”John Adamson received his Doctorate of Education from Leicester University specializing in the area of inter-cultural interview communication with Thai learners. He teaches sociolinguistics, study skills and discourse analysis at college level, as well as Business English at company level in Japan. His publications have focused on interview discourse, learning strategies, Teacher Development, and Business English methodology. He has been Senior Editor of Asian ESP Journal http://www.asian-esp-journal.com / since 2005. He is also active in his local area of Japan running a teacher research group and organizing workshops. He can be contacted at: johnadamson253@hotmail.comDr. Richard Alexander (Austria) Title: "Teaching/Learning English as an International Language for Specific Purposes: Issues and Initiatives” Richard Alexander is Full Professor and Deputy Head of the Institute for English Business Communication at Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration. He was born in Leicester, England, and has an MA in modern languages and linguistics from Cambridge University as well as a degree in economics from the University of London. He also has qualifications in English as a Foreign Language from the Institute of Education, London University. Professor Alexander has held previous appointments in Trier, Osnabrück, Marburg, Bremen, and Aachen, Germany, Birmingham, UK, Milan, Italy, and Finland, where he has taught English as a Foreign Language, business English, and linguistics for over twenty-five years. His main professional interests include textbook writing. He has published widely in European journals on lexis, phraseology, business English, and applied linguistics and he writes textbooks for adult learners of English. His current academic research is concerned with the lexis and phraseology of economics and business, the register of the economic sciences, and applied research in the learning and teaching of business English. New International Business English with co-author Leo Jones was published in 1996 by Cambridge University Press. Dr. Winnie Cheng (Hong Kong) Title: "Promoting ESP learning, teaching and research through collaboration across disciplines and professions”Winnie Cheng is a Professor, and the Director of the Research Centre for Professional Communication in English, in Department of English, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Her main research interests include corpus linguistics, phraseology, intercultural professional communication, discourse analysis, discourse intonation and intercultural pragmatics. Recent publications include Intercultural Conversation (2003), A Corpus-driven Analysis of Discourse Intonation (in press), both of which are published by John Benjamins, and Professional Communication: Collaboration between Academics and Practitioners (co-edited with Kong, C.C.K., in press), published by Hong Kong University Press.
